One of the most popular and beloved entertainment venues in Gilbert, Hale Centre Theatre offers some of the finest Broadway-quality shows in the Valley. This is a must-visit venue for musical theater-loving kids of all ages. The theatre is newly redesigned and still features there classic theatre-in-the-round theatrical staging.

For wannabe major league baseball players, the newly renovated Cactus Yards is a dream come true. Complete with eight replica baseball fields (inspired by such fields as Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Fields, and Fenway Park), and batting cages with slow and fast pitch options, baseball enthusiasts will feel like they’re in the majors, swinging, hitting and rounding the bases at this state-of-the-art facility. There’s also an air-conditioned field house for indoor sports, and two on-site restaurants ready to feed hungry players and fans an assortment of sports grill style fare.

What better way to start off spring break than with a party under the stars? Join the East Valley Astronomy Club on the second Friday of the month at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch for a captivating look at the wonders of the night sky. Weather permitting, stargazing begins at dusk and is followed by an astronomical lecture at the Southeast Regional Library in walking distance of the preserve. The event is free and, if you can’t make this one, it’s held the second Friday of each month.

Looking for a precious barn-style handmade sign? Or cake pops fashioned after, what else, unicorns? How about a one-of-a-kind, custom doll made just for your little one? Discover all these and more at the Made with Love Market, held select weekends at Heritage Marketplace in downtown Gilbert. Featuring handmade items by local small-shop owners, the market is the best place to see what Arizona makers have to offer. Come for a morning of shopping and hands-on activities for kids and families. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cool spring nights in Gilbert just got cooler thanks to Gilbert’s Downtown Concert Series. Set at the base of downtown’s iconic water tower, local bands perform a variety of styles of music, from rock and pop, to county and blues. Kids and families can enjoy a laid back evening of listening to cool beats while enjoying fresh eats, thanks to local food trucks dishing out tasty fare. Just in time for spring break, the series kicks off in March.

For something completely out of the box, bring the kids to a session of goat yoga, the latest trend in health and fitness started right here in Gilbert. Stretch, pose and be mindful with a band of baby goats and their moms, sometimes dressed in costume, always friendly and playful. You may even get the chance to cuddle with an alpaca! March classes—which are scheduled various times on Fridays and Saturdays—are open for registration. Bring a towel or mat, or rent one for $5. Classes are suitable for all levels and children are always welcome.

Designed for both the seasoned and novice skater, AZ Ice offers a sizeable ice-skating rink with open skate offered daily. There are also youth hockey programs, learn to skate classes, power skating instruction, and private instruction. AZ Ice also hosts birthday parties and private ice events, and has an onsite restaurant, M’s Grille, which serves pizza, sandwiches, salads and snacks.

Not since the infamous 16th hole at the Phoenix Open has there ever been a game of golf so rousing, so exciting, so fun. Welcome to Topgolf. OK, so we may be exaggerating, but if you’re looking for a unique golf experience, head over to Gilbert’s go-to place for competitive games, gourmet food, and a party-like atmosphere. For aspiring golfers, Topgolf offers their spring academy, which teaches the finer points of the game. Designed for kids aged 6 to 12, the academy is led by golf professionals who will teach everything from chipping and putting, to rules and etiquette.

As one of Gilbert’s newest community events, the Gilbert Symphony Orchestra features the talents of local musicians performing some of the most loved orchestral pieces by master composers. The concert is free and will be performed at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts.

Perhaps the town’s most signature event, the Gilbert Farmers Market—held every Saturday in downtown Gilbert—is the place to go for farm fresh produce, fresh-baked breads, blended seasonings and spices, and a plethora of other food staples made by Arizona purveyors. Add to that the Gilbert Art Walk, and you’ve got double the fun! Held March 16 (the last event of the season), the art walk showcases an array of art mediums, from jewelry and painting, to woodworking and photography. Enjoy live music as you browse works by local artists at this family-friendly event that runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Take a step back in time at the Gilbert Historical Museum, home to artifacts chronicling the town’s rich history, as well as exhibits that show what life was like in Gilbert’s early days, from home life and school, to farming and the military. There’s also a unique model train exhibit, and an exhibit dedicated to the traditional American craft of quilting. In March, there are a number of classes and workshops scheduled, including painting, genealogy, fabric design and quilting.

Participate in the Ka-POW! Superhero Adventure Run. Don your favorite superhero gear (capes highly encouraged) and show off your superpowers as you crush your way through a family-friendly, 2-mile course peppered with more than 20 obstacles, including the Spiderman Tower, Wonder Woman Wall, and Aquaman’s Waterside. Celebrate your victory at Gotham City, where you’ll enjoy refreshments, entertainment, inflatables, and selfies with your favorite superhero. The run is open to children age 3 and up, and registration is required.

Gilbert’s Freestone Park has it all: lakes stocked with fish, sports fields and courts, a skate park, bike trails, rec center, playgrounds and tot lots…you name it, they’ve got it. But what sets Freestone apart from other parks is the Freestone Railroad, which boasts a miniature train, antique carousel and mini Ferris wheel. Little ones will enjoy chugging along in a 1930s-era, Santa Fe style engine around the park, followed by a ride around the carousel or Ferris wheel. Ride tickets are available, as well as all-day ride bands and an annual pass.

The burrowing owl is often an elusive creature, hunting mostly from dusk to dawn. So when you see one, it can be a real treat. Thanks to the Desert Rivers Audubon Society, you can get up close and personal with a family of owls living at Zanjero Park. Join the group for an informative walk and talk to the burrowing owl habitat, where you’ll learn about the preservation project and get an update on the owlets predicted to emerge from the burrow this summer.

If indoor activities are more your speed, spend a day at Main Event, where video games, laser tag, and bowling are just a few of the many entertainment options to choose from. Knock down a few pins at the state-of-the-art bowling alley, then strap on your gear for a friendly game of laser tag. There’s also an arcade filled with more than 100 games, from classic to interactive virtual reality. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, take a break from all the action at the full-service restaurant serving American classics.

What better way to while the spring break days away than taking in a good movie? Elevating the movie experience to another level is FatCats, which not only screens the latest flicks, but also continues the fun with bowling, arcade games and, yes, even glow golf. Movies in March include “Captain Marvel,” “Wonder Park,” and “Dumbo,” played in an all-reclining theater with concessions and a full-service menu served directly to your seat.

Thanks to Imagine 3D Mini Golf, the latest in a string of new entertainment venues in Gilbert, you’ll never see golf the same way again. Surrounded by one-of-a-kind, hand-painted black light, 3-D art of fantastical objects like pirate ships, killer whales and fire-breathing dragons, golfers of all ages can putt their way through 18 holes of mini golf—immersed in a glow-in-the-dark adventure. For added fun, there’s a party room, game area and graffiti wall.

For two-wheelin’ fun, Gilbert has more than 54 miles of marked bike trails criss-crossing their way throughout town along four trail systems: Heritage Trail, SanTan Vista Trail, Marathon Trail, and Western Powerline Trail. Ride to and through Gilbert’s parks and along the Valley’s canal system. Along the way, take a break at shaded areas and ramadas, including the one at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, which depicts the famous Da Vinci Flying Machine and features quotes from the masters of astronomy.
If your kids have some excess energy to wear off, unleash them to bounce, climb, and flip at Altitude Trampoline Park. With over 35,000 square feet of indoor trampolines and other fun amenities, they are sure to be active and have fun. In addition to the trampolines, kids can enjoy the rock wall, battle beam, and trapeze swing. It is sure to be a spring break favorite!
