1. Hang Out in the Heritage District

Open-air patio dining is abundant, so you can enjoy your food and company while you lounge in the beautiful Arizona weather. Check out our Heritage District itinerary for more ways to experience the best of downtown.

2. Taste Local Flavors at Arizona Breweries

Gilbert features a number of local breweries for bites and beers. In the Heritage District, you can take a tour of micro-brewery OHSO to see how they make their small-batch, award-winning beer, then kick back with a pint from the rotating menu. And if you’ve got Fido in tow, the enclosed dog park will make you both happy. Over at Agritopia, you’ll find 12 West Brewing Co. at the craftsman collective Barnone where the kids can play board games while you sip. Finally, Arizona Wilderness takes its role as a desert brewery seriously. The craft brewer enacted sustainable practices like using barley from Sinagua Malt—a local group that promotes water conservation—and drought resistant hops.

3. Shop (and so Much More) at SanTan Village

No Gilbert getaway is complete without a trip to SanTan Village, an open-air shopping destination that features big-name retailers, local boutiques and great restaurants. Even when you’re not looking to shop, SanTan offers plenty of entertainment options and amazing dessert spots, such as Kids Empire, a Harkins movie theater, Honeymee and Frost Gelato.

4. Experience the Natural Beauty of the Desert at the Riparian Preserve

The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is a nature area that spans 110 acres and is home to seven water recharge basins that store water for the town’s future use. Designated as an “Important Bird Area” by the National Audubon Society, over 300 species of birds have been identified at the preserve, making it an ideal bird-watching spot. It’s also home to native desert wildlife, such as amphibians, reptiles and mammals. With more than 4.5 miles of trails, the park welcomes hikers, runners, bikers, horseback riders and wildlife watchers. And if you’re there on the second Friday of the month, you can get a (free!) peek at the night sky at the Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory’s star party.

5. Grab Dinner and Keep the Kids Happy

Looking for a family friendly place to eat? Gilbert’s more than got you covered. For a retro-inspired joint with good vibes and great eats, check out The Porch. While you wait for the food, the kiddos can play table shuffleboard or shoot hoops at the ASU-themed basketball arcade game. Or head to Culinary Dropout for yard games galore, such as cornhole and ping pong.

6. Explore a Modern Agricultural Community at Agritopia

Agritopia Farm was founded with two goals in mind: to preserve urban agriculture and to serve as a place for the community to gather and enjoy life. Tours of the farm are offered rain or shine every second Wednesday of the month from September through May, starting at 10 a.m., in front of the Farm Store. But that’s not all. Agritopia Farm is joined by award-winning shopping and dining. Explore handcrafted goods at Barnone, grab a bite at Belly Kitchen & Bar or experience award-winning cocktails at Undertow at Epicenter.
